If you are waiting to make a non-protected left turn, when all oncoming traffic is clear, you may turn. When the light turns yellow, and then red, and all oncoming traffic has stopped, you should definitely turn. What you should not do is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
In this instance, I was in the outer of the dual turn lanes. I had no difficulty getting around. The people in the inner turn lane were completely blocked by this genius and had to wait and then move into the outer lane. A few of them didn’t make it, but their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

I’ve only ever had one close call with a dual turn that I can remember. People around here usually drive pretty well.

Ah yes, Boston. You guys also have to deal with the Boston left, which I had pulled on me thrice while I was up there. I’ve never seen anyone even attempt to do that here.

I can’t be friends with someone who eats raisin bagels. Tell your brother that our friendship is over.

This is exactly why waiting IN the intersection is a bad idea. It’s hard to tell from the video, but it looks like either those cars were way past the stop line, or this is another one of those goofy intersections without a marked stopping point.

Half the intersections here either don’t have stop lines or they’ve very faded. But the oncoming cars stopped in the correct place.
Sometimes waiting in the intersection is the best bet, because if there’s no protected left and you sit behind the line, then you are running a red if you go at the end of the cycle, or you just sit and wait forever. In some cases with heavy traffic it’s the only way you’re gonna go anywhere. In our driver’s handbook they do tell you to pull into the intersection and then clear it once it is safe to do so. This driver just chose not to for some reason.

Before I saw the whole video, I thought “They’re going to sit there like a dumbass until you try to turn left. Then they’ll either run into you or honk at you for ‘cutting them off’.”.
Could have been a lot worse, but a wonderful example of a dipshit in action. Whether at stoplights or on the road, my favorite game is “drunk or texting?”. It’s usually texting.

That’s interesting.
Here in Michigan, there’s always something to go by. Nearly every intersection has a stop line. And for those that don’t, there’s still some clue to go by, things like the location of a stop sign, or sidewalk placement.
We’re taught that in a situation like this (waiting during a green light for a non-protected turn), we can go ahead and pull up past the stop line, up to the crosswalk. But we still must stay out of the intersection area until it’s clear to proceed.

Usually we also have a crosswalk or, in the case of this intersection, the end of a median.
